Founded in 1988 as an independent affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, Huntingdon Area Habitat for Humanity has built or rehabilitated 16 homes for local families. We now average one build per year. We have built or rehabilitated houses in Mt. Union, Three Springs, Mapleton and Huntingdon, Pennsylvania.
Houses are built with the sweat equity of our partner family homebuyers who work side-by-side with volunteers. Professional contractors help to build more advanced components to code, and volunteers finish the rest.
Habitat homes are sold to partner families at fair market value but with a zero interest mortgage loan, to lower the monthly housing cost.
Each year, many individuals and organizations come together to plan, finance and build affordable houses for Huntingdon County.
We have also offered our Brush with Kindness program to do small repair projects for low income homeowners to improve the safety and livability of their homes.
